Welcome to Class 5
Miss Rodgers and Miss Mahr
WELCOME!
We are excited to start the new term and we hope that you are well rested and eager to learn. We have some exciting topics and a range of fun activities planned.
Topic: Inspirational women of theOlympic games
Over the next term, we will be focusing on the History of the Olympic games and the inspirational women who have taken part. We will focus on the history of the olympic games and the locational knowledge of where the games have been held.
We will be covering aspects of history, geography, art, PSHE, computing and DT. English and maths skills will also be applied to our topics.
History & Geography
In History we will focus on how the Olympics have evolved through the years from the ancient games to the current games today. We will focus on Inspirational women who have taken part.
In Geography Children will focus on the location of countries that have hosted the games and the differing weather conditions the athletes can face.
English
Throughout the year, we will be incorporating vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and spelling into all lessons. We will be focusing on Bold and brave women in Shakespeare plays. We will focus on spoken language and nterpretation of the language used in Shakespeare plays.
Pupils will be taught to: Plan their writing, Draft and write, Develop vocabulary Evaluate and edit.
Maths
This term we will be focussing on: Multiplication and division - multiply and divide whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. Fractions, decimals and percentages - multiply proper fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers, supported by materials and diagrams. Measurement - understand and use approximate equivalences between metric units and common imperial units such as inches, pounds and pints
RE
During the spring term, we will be focusing on the themes: Reconciliation and Stewardship. All subjects and teaching will reflect our Catholic ethos.
Science
During our weekly lessons, there will be lots of opportunities for practical investigations to develop our scientific knowledge.
This term, we will be focusing on looking at the topic Forces in action - we will carry out comparative and fair tests to find out the effecrs of different forces
Homework
Homework will be given out on a Friday (remotely) and should be completed by the following Thursday. This will consist of spellings, timetables and relevant activities (linking to what we have been learning). Maths will be set on MyMaths.com. Please message on Class Dojo if you're child has forgotten their username and password.
Please encourage your child to read at home as this is important to their overall progress. At home, children should be reading at least 3 times per week but it is beneficial for them to read as much as they can.

Important Information
P.E- The children will have P.E on a Friday each week. Please make sure that your child wears their P.E kit on this day.
Asthma inhalers/medication must be handed in to the office with the appropriate paper work and will be administered in class as necessary. You will be informed if your child has used their inhaler during the day.
