Welcome to St Gerard's Catholic Primary & Nursery School

St Gerard’s is a loving and welcoming school. Pupils experience a strong sense of belonging here. They enjoy positive relationships and are greeted each morning by staff who genuinely care and know them well. Pupils are happy to come to school, behave well and most attend regularly. They are safe and understand how the school protects them from risks in their community and online. (OFSTED January 2026)

Welcome to St Gerard’s Catholic Primary and Nursery School

A very warm welcome to St Gerard’s Catholic Primary School. We are proud to be a caring, inclusive and faith-filled school community where every child is valued, respected and encouraged to flourish.

At St Gerard’s, our mission statement — “Guided by God, we learn to love, hope, dream and achieve” — is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes our vision, guides our daily practice, and underpins our commitment to nurturing the whole child. Rooted in our Catholic faith and Gospel values, we strive to create an environment where kindness, respect, compassion and service are lived out each day.

We are a fully inclusive school where diversity is celebrated and every child is welcomed as a unique individual made in the image of God. We are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all and work hard to remove barriers to learning. Through high-quality teaching, personalised support, and strong partnerships with families, the parish and external agencies, we ensure that children of all abilities, backgrounds and needs feel supported, safe, and able to achieve their full potential.

Our curriculum is broad, balanced and engaging, offering rich learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning. Inclusion sits at the heart of our curriculum design, ensuring learning is accessible, meaningful and appropriately challenging for every child. We promote high expectations and support children to develop confidence, resilience and independence.

Our Catholic faith is central to school life and is woven throughout daily prayer, collective worship and learning. Children are encouraged to deepen their relationship with God and to live out Gospel values within school and the wider community.

As a school, we are committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive and aspirational environment where every child feels safe, valued and inspired to succeed. We believe that all children can achieve great things when they are supported, challenged and encouraged to believe in themselves. Working in partnership with staff, governors, families and the wider community, we strive to ensure that high expectations, care and inclusion go hand in hand, enabling every child to grow academically, spiritually and personally.

We warmly welcome visits to St Gerard’s and would be delighted to share what makes our school such a special place. Please contact the school office on 0151 424 2879 to arrange an appointment or to request further information. Paper copies of any information on this website are available upon request.

Warm wishes,

Mr K. Landrum

St Gerard’s Catholic Primary & Nursery has been recognised in its most recent OFSTED (January 2026)  for its exceptional quality of education, achieving multiple “Strong Standard” judgements under Ofsted’s new, more rigorous framework. This is a significant achievement, with this standard being broadly comparable to the previous “Outstanding” judgement.

The report highlights many of the school’s strengths, including:

Excellent academic outcomes, with pupils performing above national averages in reading, writing and maths

Outstanding behaviour and attitudes, with pupils described as calm, respectful and focused

A rich and ambitious curriculum, delivered through high-quality teaching across all subjects

A highly inclusive environment, where all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged backgrounds, are supported to succeed

Strong leadership and safeguarding, ensuring pupils feel safe, valued and supported

“We are incredibly proud of our pupils, staff and wider school community. This report reflects the dedication and care that goes into every aspect of school life. Achieving multiple ‘Strong Standard’ judgements under this new framework is a wonderful recognition of our shared commitment to excellence.”

Under the new Ofsted framework, even achieving an “Expected” judgement is a strong outcome, making our results particularly pleasing.
