Welcome to Class Two 2024-2025
Hello Class Two!
Welcome back to another exciting term! I (Mrs Johnson) will be teaching Y2 Tuesday - Friday. On a Monday, Y2 will be taught by Mrs Farrell. We are very fortunate to be having the wonderful Mrs Scott support us as our teaching assistant throughout the week!
As always, if there is ANYTHING you need, please do not hesitate to contact me via the Class Dojo messaging system, or book an appointment with me through the school office. It is ESSENTIAL that you download the ClassDojo app, we update this daily with pictures and information regarding the children's learning in class, information on planned trips and extra curricular activities and any other important information that you may need. If you cannot find your login, please come and ask for a new one! We are always here if you need us.
Religious Education
This year, we begin the brand new 'To Know You More Clearly' Religious Education Directory. This term, w are looking at the third and fourth branches. The third branch topic is 'Galilee to Jerusalem.' The children will be encouraged to explore their personal faith through a wide range of creative and engaging activities that allow them to be curious and reflect and connect with their own spirituality.
As always, we will continue our daily prayer and litrugy sessions. These will take place both in class, and together as a KS1 family - gathering together to spend time listening to God's special word.
Geography and History
Our topics for the Spring terms are: 'All About Australia' and 'Intrepid Explorers.' We will be developing our geography skills, looking at different types of maps and atlases, and comparing the goegraphy of England/the UK to the geography of Australia. We will also be developing our understanding of key historical events and key historical people through our intrepid explorers topic, focussing on Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.

Children will be continuing to develop their knowledge of place value and partitioning of 2 digit numbers, adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers. We will be moving on to look at multiplication and division and solving problems using these skills. We will be using the brilliant 'PowerMaths' programme to support our learning throughout the year in Maths. Children will be provided with a NumBots login and password, to be able practice our addition and subtraction number bond skills at home, as well as a MyMaths login which will be used to send a weekly Maths task as homework, linking to what we have been covering in class.
English
In spring 1, we will be foussing on fictional story writing, using the superb 'The Dragon Machine,' by Helen Ward. In spring 2, we will be looking at writing recounts in the form of a diary entry, using the brilliant book 'Major Glad, Major Dizzy,' by Jan Oke, to ignite the children's imaginations! In spring 2, we will be looking at Throughout these topics, children will be developing their handwriting skills, use of punctuation such as capital letters, full stops and question and exclamation marks, as well as developing their imaginative vocabulary by writing expanded noun phrases to create interesting and engaging pieces.
Each morning, children will access their relevant phonics or guided reading groups to develop their reading fluency and comprehension skills.

Children will be learning all about growth and survival! We will be looking at different animals and their offspring, and considering how humans grow and change rfom babies into adults. We will be looking at the essential things we need to survive and how this is impacted by the environemnt that we live in. We will be considering the impact of a healthy diet and excercise on this.
REMOTE LEARNING
If the need arises, we have a remote learning policy in school that allows us to continue to teach the curriculum from home, with the children accessing their learning remotely. Using the ClassDojo system, children will be provided with videos of teaching input that model the learning objectives they need. This will be sent directly via the Dojo ClassStory page, or individually on ClassDojo messages. The children will then be set tasks to complete at home, relating to the teachign input video. We are continuing to review and update our remote learning policy and more information will be provided regarding this at a later date.

- Children will enter school via the main gate at 8:50am. Children will finish school at 3:20pm and parents can wait on the school playground to collect their child. We will be entering and leaving the school building via the link corridor door - children will line up along the railing and will NOT be allowed to go to their parent/carer, until a member of staff has seen you/told the child they can go. We really appreciate your patience with this, as always this is to ensure that the children all get to their care giver safely!
- Please remember that children are not to ride bikes or scooters, or kick balls on the yard during pick up/drop off times. Dogs are also not allowed on the playground, again to ensure the safety of our whole school community.
- PE will be taking place on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child is wearing our SCHOOL PE KIT only. If you are having any problems with this, please do not hesitate to contact me via Class Dojo, or speak to Mrs Wright.
- Asthma inhalers/medication must be handed in to the office with the appropriate paper work and will be administered in class as necessary. You will be informed if your child has used their inhaler during the day.
- Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle that is labelled with their names.
- Homework will be set via the MyMaths and Numbots apps, a maths activity will be set on a weekly basis for children to access. Logins for these will be in your child's reading/homework folder. Reading books are to be read at least 3 times weekly with reading diaries signed by an adult, the children will then be able to swap them.
- Reading books will also be changed every Friday. Please ensure that your child reads their book 3 times and has their reading record signed. It is crucial that you support your child with their reading journey so please ensure that they are reading each night. It would also be lovely to see reading diaries signed with any books that the children are enjoying of their own at home!! We want to promote a love of reading for all of our children and would love to celebrate this with them.
- If you have ANY questions, queries or worries, please do contact the office to arrange an appointment with Mrs Johnson, we are always here if you need us :)
