Welcome to Class Two 2024-2025

Hello Class Two!
We are so excited to have you join us this year, and have so many exciting things planned for the year ahead! I (Mrs Johnson) will be teaching Y2 Tuesday - Friday. On a Monday, Y2 will be taught by Mrs Farrell. We are very fortunate to be having the wonderful Mrs Scott support us as our teaching assistant throughout the week!
As always, if there is ANYTHING you need, please do not hesitate to contact me via the Class Dojo messaging system, or book an appointment with me through the school office. It is ESSENTIAL that you download the ClassDojo app, we update this daily with pictures and information regarding the children's learning in class, information on planned trips and extra curricular activities and any other important information that you may need. If you cannot find your login, please come and ask for a new one! We are always here if you need us.

Religious Education

To Know You More Clearly - St Elizabeth's Primary School

This year, we begin the brand new 'To Know You More Clearly' Religious Education Directory. Our first branch topic is 'Creation and Covenant.' In Autumn 2 we are movin on to branch 2, 'Prophecy and Promise.' The children will be encouraged to explore their personal faith through a wide range of creative and engaging activities that allow them to be curious and reflect and connect with their own spirituality.
As always, we will continue our daily prayer and litrugy sessions. These will take place both in class, and together as a KS1 family - gathering together to spend time listening to God's special word.

Geography and History

Our topics for the Autumn terms are: 'Map Makers' and 'The Gunpowder Plot.' We will be developing our geography skills, looking at different types of maps and atlases. We will also be developing our understanding of key historical events that have shaped our country, looking at the events of the Gunpowder plot and showing an understanding of chronology.

Maths

Power Maths from Pearson - Teachwire

Children will be developing their knowledge of place value and partitioning of 2 digit numbers. They will then use these skills to practice their addition and subtraction of 1 digit numbers and 2 digit numbers. We will be using the brilliant 'PowerMaths' programme to support our learning throughout the year in Maths. Children will be provided with a NumBots login and password, to be able practice our addition and subtraction number bond skills at home, as well as a MyMaths login which will be used to send a weekly Maths task as homework, linking to what we have been covering in class.

English

Pathways to Write | Brookside Primary School

Children will be enjoying lots of high quality texts across the year and we are making an excellent start with the book 'Troll Swap' - children will be inspired by this brilliant book to write their own narrative stories.  In Autumn Term 2 we will be reading 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' and writing our own non chronological reports. Throughout these topics, children will be developing their handwriting skills, use of punctuation such as capital letters, full stops and question and exclamation marks, as well as developing their imaginative vocabulary by writing expanded noun phrases to create interesting and engaging pieces.

Each morning, children will access their relevant phonics or guided reading groups to develop their reading fluency and comprehension skills.

Science

Children will be learning all about materials and their properties! We will be considering the suitability of different materials for different purposes, using scientific vocabulary to justify our reasoning. We will be taking part in investigations and experiements to test the suitability of different materials and therefore developing our 'working scientifically' skills.

  • Children will enter school via the main gate at 8:50am. Children will finish school at 3:20pm and parents can wait on the school playground to collect their child.  We will be entering and leaving the school building via the link corridor door - children will line up along the railing and will NOT be allowed to go to their parent/carer, until a member of staff has seen you/told the child they can go. We really appreciate your patience with this, as always this is to ensure that the children all get to their care giver safely!
  • Please remember that children are not to ride bikes or scooters, or kick balls on the yard during pick up/drop off times. Dogs are also not allowed on the playground, again to ensure the safety of our whole school community.
  • PE will be taking place on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child is wearing our SCHOOL PE KIT only. If you are having any problems with this, please do not hesitate to contact me via Class Dojo, or speak to Mrs Wright.
  • Asthma inhalers/medication must be handed in to the office with the appropriate paper work and will be administered in class as necessary. You will be informed if your child has used their inhaler during the day.
  • Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle that is labelled with their names.
  • Homework will be set via the MyMaths and Numbots apps, a maths activity will be set on a weekly basis for children to access. Logins for these will be in your child's reading/homework folder. Reading books are to be read at least 3 times weekly with reading diaries signed by an adult, the children will then be able to swap them.
  • Reading books will also be changed every Friday. Please ensure that your child reads their book 3 times and has their reading record signed. It is crucial that you support your child with their reading journey so please ensure that they are reading each night. It would also be lovely to see reading diaries signed with any books that the children are enjoying of their own at home!! We want to promote a love of reading for all of our children and would love to celebrate this with them.
  • If you have ANY questions, queries or worries, please do contact the office to arrange an appointment with Mrs Johnson, we are always here if you need us :)
