'Dino-saw-us' - January 2019

'Do-you-think-he-saw-us!'

This week we are exploring the topic 'Dinosaurs'. On Monday when we came into Nursery the children were gobsmacked to see that we had 'Dinosaur Eggs' in our classroom. The children were so excited to have a closer look. During our learning time the children have been busy watching the eggs hatch and the dinosaurs grow into bigger ones. 

In our art session the children worked in small groups to create and paint their own fossil. We enjoyed making our own salt dough and printing our dinosaur bones into the mixture. 

In our number time the children used shapes to create pictures. We felt inspired by 'Stimulating Learning' and made dinosaurs using basic 2D shapes. The children's imagination is brilliant.  

One of the children's challenges this week was to use the hammer and pins to create a picture. Lots of concentration and fine motor control during this activity. Lots of risk taking and health and self-care being adhered to independently. 

Nursery were amazed with the 'real fossils' we found in our classroom. Lots of fantastic predictions about what could be inside. They even used brushes and other tools to open them up.

Today we explored the outdoor area for dinosaurs. The children used the iPads to virtually experience what it would be like for dinosaurs to roam around our school playground. During this activity the children used positional language "the dinosaur is crawling on top of me." "The t-rex is next to Imogen!".

The children have been hooked into our dinosaur topic and have been busy exploring different sized dinsoaurs in our swamp. During our challenge time the children used nets to catch different dinosaurs too.

We even used blocks to measure how long and tall our dinosaur friends were too. Lots of fantastic mathematical language.
