Reception 2016 - 2017

Miss Harvey

Welcome to St Gerard's Reception page!

This half term our topic will be 'Growing'.  Within this topic we will be explornig the life-cycle of various animals.  We will be able to explore the life-cycle of a hen up close and personal by having eggs delivered to our classroom in an incubater which will then hatch into baby chicks!  We will learn how to care for animals to help them grow.  Our role play area will be tranformed into a garden centre, providing opportunities for the pupils to grow different plants and understand what is needed to grow plants.

We will be reading stories such as the'The Hungry Caterpillar' and 'A tiny seed' when exploring this topic.  This allows for many writing and creative opportunities such as desribing and showing the life-cycles.

In maths, we will be focusing on Shape Space and Measure, including length, weight and capacity.  We will also continue to strengthen our confidence with working out adding and taking-away number sentences.

We are very excited to have Mrs Edwards in our class each week to do science.  This half term we will be learning all about magnets and floating and sinking.
