Reception 2017 - 2018

Miss Harvey

Welcome to St Gerard's Reception page!

This half term, our topic is 'Guess How Much I Love You?'.  We will be using this topic to explore all areas of the curriculum, using the book as a stimulus.  We will be learning about who is in our family and how to be a good friend to others.  This will allow for many writing opportunities including drawing and captioning who is in our family as well as the different ways to be a good friend.  We will also be practiving out skill of being able to retell and sequence a familar story.

Maths will focus on number recognition and counting.  As well as this, we will explore the conept of length and begin to measure length using non-standard measurement.

The topic of 'Guess How Much I Love You?' will be further explored within continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors.  Pupils will be encouraged to take control of their own learning by engaging appropriately with the tasks set at different areas.

In phonics we will have daily speed sound lessons in which children will learn set one sounds.  They will also begin to use fred talk to both read and write simple CVC words.  Information about our phonics programme Read Write Inc can  be found by pressing the tab at the top of this page.

Keep an eye on our class page for photos and information about the exciting things your children have been getting up to in Reception! :-)
