Our topic during this term is 'Rotten Romans' and 'Winter around the World'.

In English, we will be focusing on the text 'Romans on the Rampage' by Jeremy Strong in the first half-term. The children will discover what the Romans did for us. We will also focus on a collection of stories based around 'Winter Magic' in the second half-term. To begin the new academic year, we will focus on poetry with the theme of new beginnings, friendship, resilience and self-belief to tie in with PSHE.

We will work on improving our spelling, punctuiation and grammar throughout English and other curriculum subjects. Spellings will be given out as homework each week. The children are to practise their spellings for homework so that they are ready for their weekly spelling test every Friday.

In Maths this term, we will be focusing on place value and number skills. In Maths, the children will regulalrly be using their reasoning and problem solving skills to solve mathematical problems and challenges. It is essential that the children know all of their times tables. It is expected that children know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 times tables by Year 4. We will be practising these regularly in class and it would be highly beneficial for the children to also practise at home. Please ensure your child accesses TT Rockstars at home.  All children have a login for Times Table Rockstars so please access this if possible. It is a fun way for the children to practise their times tables.

In R.E this term, we will be looking at ‘People’ through the theme of the Domestic Church – Family. We will then explore the importance of confirmation through our topic ‘Called’. Towards the end of the term we will explore ‘Gift’, focussing on God’s gift of love and friendship in Jesus. All subjects and teaching will reflect our Catholic ethos.

In Science, we will be investigating the environment and living things and their habitats. We will also cover States of Matter and look at material properties and changes, There will be lots of opportunities for practical investigations during our weekly lessons. 

We also have an exciting opportunity to where the children will be involved in learning about the British Values through Dance lessons.

Important Information

P.E- The children will have P.E on a Thursday afternoon each week. Please make sure that your child brings in their P.E kit for this.

This term, we are also going SWIMMING every Friday afternoon. This will run from 13.9.19 - 18.10.19 (6 weeks). Please ensure that your child brings their swimming kit every Friday.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday. This will consist of spellings, times tables and relevant activities (linking to what we have been learning).

Please encourage your child to read at home as this is important to their overall progress. Please sign your child's reading diary at least three times per week. We monitor reading at home every day. Children will receive 1 dojo point for each time they have read at home.
