Dear Parents/Carers,

Here is some information for you whilst your child is learining from home.

Maths

 I have given every child their login for the website My Maths https://www.mymaths.co.uk. I have set maths activities and tasks for the children to complete and I will continue to set more. All passwords have been provided in the packs that each child has. If your child misplaces their login and password please contact me using the email adress class4@stgerardswdnes.co.uk.

I have also provided maths activities and tasks in each child's pack. These activities are to be completed in the child's workbook, which have been provided in their packs. Each day, your child can choose whether to complete an activity provided in the pack or an activity on My Maths.

If your child does have access to internet and a device, please encourage your child to also access the following websites. They are great for ensuring that your child is practising their maths skills regularly.

English

Writing

Each child has been provided numerous writing activities in their packs. These are linked to our recent topic 'Myths and Legends', which the children have thoroughly enjoyed! They know lots of myths and legends and are familair with what makes a myth or a legend. Your child has also been provided with SPaG (grammar) activities, which your child can complete and then use these skills in their writing activites. Please ensure your child completes these writing activities in their workbook.

Reading

Please ensure that your chilld is reading regularly at home. Here are some links for your child to access books online:

I have also provided guided reading and comprehension activities in each child's pack. Some of these have been taken from the website 'Once Upon a Picture' https://www.onceuponapicture.co.uk. This is great for your child's infernce skills and they love the images! It really sparks their imagination and good quality questions are provided for each one. Your child can answer these questions in their workbook. 

Everyone has writing, Geography, Art and History to complete which is offline. These activities are provided in your child's pack.

Below, is a suggested timetable:

9am-9.30 – Reading / Guided Reading / Comprehension (But don't forget that Joe Wicks does a live workout for you to join in at 9am) :-)

9.30-10.15 – History activity

10.15-11.15 – My Maths activity (offline activity for others)

11.15-11.30 – Have a break

11.30 – 12.30 – Writing activity

12.30 – 1.30 – Lunch

1.30 – 2.30 – Geography activity

2.30 – 3.00 – Any unfinished activities or, if finished, TT Rockstars.

Our topic during this term is 'Myths and Legends'.

In English, we will be focusing on the many faces of Robin Hood. The children will discover some traditional myths and legends. To begin the new term, we will focus on overcoming barriers and asking questions to tie in with PSHE. We will also focus on poetry throughopit the term.

We will work on improving our spelling, punctuiation and grammar throughout English and other curriculum subjects. Spellings will be given out as homework each week. The children are to practise their spellings for homework.

In Maths this term, we will be focusing on multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, decimals and measurement. In Maths, the children will regulalrly be using their reasoning and problem solving skills to solve mathematical problems and challenges. It is essential that the children know all of their times tables. It is expected that children know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 times tables by Year 4. We will be practising these regularly in class and it would be highly beneficial for the children to also practise at home. Please ensure your child accesses TT Rockstars at home.  All children have a login for Times Table Rockstars so please access this if possible. It is a fun way for the children to practise their times tables.

In R.E this term, we will be looking at ‘Community’ and life in the local Christian communtiy and ministires in th parish. We will then explore the giving and receiving and living in communion. All subjects and teaching will reflect our Catholic ethos.

In Science, we will be investigating aniamls and their teeth and digestion. We will xplire food chains and indetify producers, predators and prey. There will be lots of opportunities for practical investigations during our weekly lessons. 

We also have an exciting opportunity to where the children will be involved in learning about the British Values through Dance lessons.

Important Information

P.E- The children will have P.E on a Thursday afternoon each week. Please make sure that your child brings in their P.E kit for this.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday. This will consist of spellings, times tables and relevant activities (linking to what we have been learning).

Please encourage your child to read at home as this is important to their overall progress. Please sign your child's reading diary at least three times per week. We monitor reading at home every day. Children will receive 1 dojo point for each time they have read at home.

Please check the school website, twitter and newsletters for any unpcoming events. Please also check the parent app for any trips that your child will be going on. Keep an eye on our school twitter page (@StGerardsWidnes) to see what your child has been up to.
