Class 3 2018 - 2019

Miss Sanders

Welcome to Class 3!

Our Autumn term topic is 'There's no place like home' and we will incorporate this into different curriculum areas.

In English, we will be focusing on 'Stories with Familiar Settings' and after reading and analysing different texts and their key features, we will be writing our own exciting stories with a familiar setting!

In Maths, we will start the term with our topic of 'Place Value' in which we will be counting, comparing and ordering numbers as well as developing our ability to represent numbers in different ways.

In Science, we are focusing on 'Health and Nutrition' in which we will be discussing how to keep our bodies healthy. We will be learning about food groups, diets, skeletons and muscles- not only for humans but for animals too!

Our first Come and See topic is 'Homes'. In this, we will be focusing on God's dream for every family. We will explore how God is present in every home and understand that this is expressed in the love that binds families together within the home through both good and bad times.

Our Autumn term topic mainly focuses on developing our geography skills. We will be reading and analysing maps and looking at different human and physical features within the local area. When focusing on history, we will be comparing similarities and difference between the local area now and then.

Our spelling, punctuation and grammar will continue to improve throughout our English work as well as other curriculum areas.

We will have a spelling test every Friday. We will also be working on our times tables and will have weekly times tables tests. All children have a log in for Times Table Rockstars so please access this if possible as it is a fun and enjoyable way for children to practise their times tables.

Important information:

We have PE every TUESDAY. Children are expected to be wearing their full school PE kit and pumps (school shoes/trainers are NOT to be worn).

Homework will be given out every Friday and will need to be returned by the following Thursday. This will consist of spellings and times tables.

It is really important to encourage your child to read at home. Please sign your child's reading diary at least three per week so that their reading books can be changed. Reading is monitored daily and regular readers are rewarded with dojo points and other prizes.

Please check our school website, twitter and newsletters for any upcoming events.

Thank you,

Miss Sanders & Mrs O'Brien
