Class 3 2017 - 2018

Miss Sanders

Welcome to Class 3!

We have lots of exciting things to look forward to during the Summer term! Our whole school topic is 'Africa- A far away place' and we will incorporate this into different areas of the curriculum in exciting ways!

In English, we will be studying a range of genres including dialogues and plays, information texts and poetry. We will also be focusing on the author Oliver Jeffers and looking at the range of work he has produced.

In Maths, we will start the term by learning to tell the time! We will then move onto our 'Geometry' topic and study 2D and 3D shapes, angles and lines. In the latter part of the term, we will move onto our 'Statistics' topic in which we will interpret and present data through bar charts, pictograms and tables.

In Science, we will be starting the term with an exciting 'Animals' week! We will be doing lots of cross-curricular work about animals, their food and their skeletons! We will then move onto our topic of 'Rocks' in which we will explore, compare and describe different kinds of rocks. Our final Science topic is 'Light' and we will study how light is reflected from surfaces, the damages that sunlight may have and how shadows are formed.

Our Come and See topic for Pentecost is 'Energy'. In this, we will be focusing on how the gift of the Holy Spirit within us gives us the energy and power to live the way of Jesus. Our Reconciliation topic is 'Choices' and we will be looking at the importance of examining our conscience.

In our Topic lessons, we will be studying Africa. We will look at both historical and geographical elements of the continent within our lessons.

We will continue to improve our spelling, punctuation and grammar throughout our English work as well as across other curriculum areas.

We will have a spelling test every Friday. We will also be working on our times tables and will have weekly times tables tests. All children have a log in for Times Table Rockstars so please access this if possible as it is a fun and enjoyable way for children to practise their times tables.

Important information:

We have PE every THURSDAY. Children are expected to be wearing their school PE kit and pumps (school shoes/trainers are NOT to be worn).

Homework will be given out every Friday and will need to be returned by the following Thursday. This will consist of spellings, times tables and another activity based around classroom activities from that week.

It is important to encourage your child to read at home. Please sign your child's reading diary at least twice per week so that their reading books can be changed. Reading and homework are monitored and there will be dojo points rewarded to children who are regular readers and complete their homework!

Please check the school website, twitter and newsletters for any upcoming events.

Thank you,

Miss Sanders & Miss McNulty
