Welcome to Class 1!

Our topic this term is 'Fire!Fire!'. The children will be learning about the Great  Fire of London and Guy Fawkes. In Science we will explore and compare everyday materials. 

Within English this term, we will be focusing on a variety of different stories that link closely with out topics. We will be reading and exploring books from famous authors  and writing out own verison of what we have read. We wil also be using our topic to carry out research using the computers and the internet to research famous people.

In Maths, during the first half term we will be developing our number, addition and subtraction skills.The children will also be continuing to develop their number skills, regularly counting in 2, 5,10 and using their knowledge of number to solve problems. In the second half term we will  be learning about the different units of measure for length/height, mass, and capacity. They will be recognising and using symbols for pounds and pence and combining these to create particular totals. We will look at a range of 2D and 3D shape, comparing and sorting them according to their properties. Children will be using vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement.


Things to remember:

  • Children should have their book bags in school everyday so we can read with your child.
  • Reading books will be changed once your child has read their book three times.
  • Homework- Homework will be given out on Monday and should be brought back on Friday. The childrens homework will include, spellings, handwriting and times tables practice.
